A mentor plays a pivotal role in the development of a student teacher.

We all remember a mentor who supported or inspired our development as teachers.

Without people (like yourself) there would soon be insufficient teachers to ensure our children get the best quality education.

Also the skills developed by being a mentor are very valuable for your own continual professional learning.

The University provides all the training you will require for the role.

This includes a free two-day mentorship programme, regular briefings, and partnership training days.

We also offer interim mentor training to enable you to begin mentoring pending completion of the two-day mentoring programme.

You will be required to support your student through:

Throughout the period of school experience a University tutor will liaise with you over all aspects of the student’s training and your role.

They are available to answer any questions you may have and will make scheduled visits.

These will include opportunities to undertake joint observations.
